Kingdom Come: Deliverance II’s combat system does not forgive mistakes. There is no usual RPG spamming of attacks, where you can just click your mouse and win. Every movement is important: the direction of the blow, timing of the block, choice of weapons, use of the environment and even the morale of the enemy.
One of the main innovations was the improved mechanics of fighting against multiple enemies. Now, if you are surrounded by a group of enemies, it doesn’t mean instant loss. Thanks to tactical opportunities, competent movement and a well-thought-out parry system, you can stand even against five opponents. However, to reach this level of skill, you need to understand the principles of battle, know the strengths and weaknesses of weapons and use cunning techniques.
How to fight against several opponents and not get killed?
The biggest mistake beginners make is standing still, desperately swinging their sword. If you are surrounded, the first thing you need to do is to control the space. Open spaces are your enemy, and narrow passages, walls and any obstacles are your allies. The fewer enemies can attack you at the same time, the higher the chances of victory.
Next, the correct rhythm of attacks and defense is important. You shouldn’t attack constantly – every move you make should be deliberate. Defense and counterattacks play a key role. The ability to parry and immediately respond with a blow makes you a deadly fighter. The best way to survive in a fight against a crowd is to make your enemies make mistakes. Block blows, use masterful counterattacks and maneuver so that they interfere with each other.
It’s equally important to keep an eye on your stamina. There are no “endless” attacks in the game – every movement requires energy. If you are exhausted, your character becomes slow and your blows lose power. Because of this, you can easily find yourself in a situation where enemies will just slaughter you while you’re trying to catch your breath.
What weapons should I choose?
The choice of weapon directly affects the style of combat. Each type has its own features that suit different situations.
The long sword is a classic option for experienced fighters.
It allows you to deliver powerful blows, but requires two hands. It is great for masterful counterattacks and is effective against most enemies. However, it is hard to use against mobs as the attack animations are quite long.
The short sword can be carried with a shield, making it a good choice for defensive tactics.
It is faster than the long sword, but does less damage. It is suitable for an aggressive style with fast attacks and constant dodging.
Axes and maces are especially useful against enemies wearing armor, as their crushing damage penetrates heavy armor better.
However, their strikes are slower and parry is less effective compared to swords.
Halberds and spears give a distance advantage, allowing you to keep enemies at bay.
However, in tight quarters or when facing fast opponents, their use becomes difficult.
Bows and crossbows remain a powerful tool on the battlefield.
They allow you to weaken enemies before engaging in melee combat. A headshot is often lethal, but takes time to reload, making long-range weapons risky in open battles.
Advanced Tactics and Combat Tricks
The wedge (grapple) is a powerful melee weapon. If you are cornered, you can try to seize the initiative with a clinch. If successfully executed, it allows you to push your enemy away, temporarily disarm him or strike at point-blank range.
Fints and deceptive strikes help to break through the enemy’s defense. If you constantly attack in one direction, the enemy will learn to anticipate your movements. It is much more effective to make sudden changes of direction or abruptly interrupt an attack, forcing the enemy to block in the wrong direction.
The use of encirclement is an important factor in victory. If the fight takes place in a village, you can drive enemies into a narrow passage between houses so that they can’t attack all at once. If there are stairs or a hill nearby, it is better to take an advantageous position and attack from above.
Stamina control decides the outcome of the fight. If you are exhausted, the fight is already lost. It is important to keep an eye on your energy bar and not waste it. Sometimes it’s better to retreat, recover and get back into the fight with renewed energy than to try to finish off the enemy when you have no energy left.
Combat in KCD2 is not just a battle, but a real art. To survive and win, you need to use weapons wisely, control space, monitor your stamina and use clever tactics.
If you memorize a few key rules, you can significantly increase your chances of victory:
- Don’t stand still – move, use your surroundings to avoid being surrounded.
- Attack without defense is the path to death – parry blows to find opportunities to counterattack.
- Don’t spam blows – watch your stamina, otherwise you will be left without strength at the critical moment.
- Choose weapons to suit your style of play – each type of weapon has its pros and cons.
- Use cunning techniques – feints, wedges and unexpected blows will help you outsmart your opponent.
By mastering these principles of combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverence 2, you will not only survive, but also become a true master of combat, able to withstand even the most difficult battles.
