In most RPGs, archery is simple: the player takes aim, presses a button, and the arrow flies wherever the sight points. But in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II everything is different, in this game archery is an art. Here, the bow is not just a weapon, but a science that requires an understanding of mechanics, precise aiming skills, and the ability to take into account the distance to the target.
In KCD2 there is no trailer, the staff is constantly swaying from side to side. In addition still need to take into account the physics of the flight of the arrow. Because of this, learning to shoot a bow well is quite problematic. But if you learn it, the bow can become one of the most deadly weapons. You will be able to destroy your enemies before they can get to you.
What are the methods of aiming?
In real life, archers use two main methods of aiming:
- Instinctive shooting (or reflexive) – when the archer, through repeated practice, memorizes how to shoot without aiming. Everything is decided by muscle memory.
- Gap Shooting – a method in which the archer uses the arrowhead as an aiming point and adjusts the position based on the distance to the target.
Both methods are applicable in KCD2, but beginners should start with landmark shooting. It gives specific reference points for an accurate hit.
What is the correct way to aim without a sight?
Since there is no automatic sight in the game, the accuracy of the shot depends on how correctly the player uses the arrowhead.
The bow must be drawn to the end. If the bowstring is released earlier, the arrow will fly with less force and may deviate from the target. You can determine the full tension by the movement of the arrowhead: when it stops moving backwards, the tension is at its maximum.
It is important to consider the distance to the target. If the target is close (about 5 paces), the arrow usually goes slightly above and to the left of the aiming point. To compensate for this, you should aim the tip slightly to the right and below the center of the target.
The farther away the target is, the higher the arrowhead should be raised, as the arrow loses height at long ranges.
If the target is higher (e.g. a bird in a tree), the sight should be raised even higher than usual. If you are shooting downwards – on the contrary, aim lower.
How to improve shooting accuracy?
The best way to improve your technique is to practice at an archery range. There are several places to shoot in KCD2, but the shooting range is one of the most convenient.
It is better to start with short distances (5 paces), then move to the standard distance of tournaments (15 paces), and then try to shoot long distances.
It is also worth considering the characteristics of the character. Accuracy is affected by:
- Strength – increases draw speed and reduces bow wobble.
- Dexterity – reduces the swing when aiming.
- Stamina – affects how long the character can keep the bow taut.
If the character’s characteristics are low, the bow will swing a lot, making it difficult to hit.
How can I fight shaking when aiming?
Fluctuations of the hands when shooting depend on several factors.
The lower the “Dexterity” characteristic, the more the bow sways. If the character is tired or wears heavy armor, he will lose stability faster. To reduce the shake, you can quickly adjust the arrowhead with small movements and then release the arrow when the aiming point matches the target.
Another important point is to keep the target in the center of the screen. If the target is slightly left of center, the character will spend less time moving when aiming.
How do I hit moving targets?
Hitting a static target is one thing, but in real combat, enemies rarely stand still. That’s why it’s best to learn how to shoot at moving targets, such as logs floating in a river.
There are two important factors to consider:
Distance variation. The farther away the target, the higher the arrowhead must be raised.
Prejudice. If the target is moving from left to right, you should shoot slightly ahead of it so that the arrow hits the right place at the moment of movement.
Over time, this becomes instinctive, and shooting at a running enemy will be as easy as shooting at a static target.
Combat techniques for the archer
If the bow is used in combat, it’s important to know when it’s best to shoot and when it’s best to switch to melee combat.
Enemy archers are a prime target. If you don’t kill them immediately, they can do serious damage. Therefore, if there are archers in a group of enemies, you should deal with them first.
In combat, it is better to use the bow at a medium distance. If the enemy is already too close, switching to a sword or dagger will be a more reasonable solution. It’s also worth remembering that some enemies can avoid arrows. Experienced fighters sometimes take sharp steps to the side, making it difficult to hit. In such cases, it is better to aim at the center of the body rather than the head, as the probability of hitting is higher.
How to become a good archer in KCD2?
Archery in KCD2 is not just an additional skill, but a full-fledged art that requires patience and training. To learn how to hit the target, you need to follow a few principles.
Always draw the bow all the way down before you shoot. If you release the bowstring early, the arrow will lose speed and accuracy.
Use the arrowhead as a reference point. The farther away the target, the higher the tip must be raised.
Take into account the movement of the enemy. If the target is running, shoot slightly ahead so that the arrow hits it at the right moment.
Practice shooting at different targets. The best way to improve your accuracy is to practice constantly at the shooting range or on the Ledecko River.
Keep an eye on your character’s characteristics. The higher the level of Dexterity and Strength, the less the bow will swing and the easier it will be to shoot.
It takes a lot of practice, and eventually archery will no longer seem difficult.
