Unlike many modern RPGs, the second part of Kindom Come – Deliverance has no free save at any time. However, compared to the first part there are improved mechanics.

Let’s analyze all the ways of saving in the game, their advantages and disadvantages.

All methods of saving in KCD 2

There are three main methods of saving in the game:

  • Sleeping in bed
  • Using Saviour Schnapps.
  • The “Save and Exit” feature

Each has its own peculiarities that are worth knowing about.

Saving with Saviour Schnapps

The second way to save the game anywhere and anytime is to use a special potion called “Saviour Schnapps”. This potion works instantly, but is consumed each time you use it.

It can be obtained in several ways. The easiest is to buy it from merchants in taverns or alchemists. However, the price can be quite high, especially in the early stages of the game. A more economical option is to create schnapps yourself on the alchemist’s table.

This method will be useful before difficult battles, quests or dangerous journeys.

Despite the convenience, the method has disadvantages. First, the stock of potion is limited. If you do not keep track of the amount of Saviour Schnapps, you may find yourself without the ability to save at a critical moment. Secondly, abusing this potion can lead to alcohol intoxication, which will affect the character’s performance.

Saving via “Save and Exit”

An innovation in KCD2 is the ability to save the game before exiting. This method works simply: you select the “Save and Exit” option in the pause menu, the game records the current state, and the next time you start, you will continue exactly where you left off.

If you want to interrupt the game, but don’t want to look for a bed or waste schnapps, this option will suit you best. However, it has a limitation: once loaded, the save disappears and you can’t reload from the same point.

Saving through sleep

The most reliable and free way to save your game is to rest in bed. This can be done in your home, in a tavern or when visiting an NPC who lets you sleep at his place. Upon waking up, the game automatically creates a save.

However, there is an important nuance: if you decide to sleep in the open air, in a camp or just in the forest, saving will not work. This approach forces you to plan your travels in advance and look for places to sleep.

This method is convenient if you have access to a bed, but not suitable for emergencies. If you are away from populated areas and find yourself in a complex combat situation, relying on a bed as a means of preservation will not work.

How to manage your saves effectively

When playing a game, you need to keep a close eye on your saves. If you play erratically, you may find yourself in a situation where the last save was too long ago and you have to go through a large part of the game again.

To avoid such situations, it is important to remember a few rules:

  • Use save beds before important story events. If you know there’s a difficult battle or crucial choice ahead, find a place to sleep first.
  • Keep a supply of Savior Schnapps in your inventory. These potions can save you in a difficult moment, so don’t forget to buy them from merchants or prepare them yourself.
  • Don’t rely solely on “Save and Exit.” Although it’s a convenient method, it’s not suitable for saving progress all the time. If something unexpected happens after loading, you won’t be able to roll back.
  • Keep an eye on your supply of ingredients to create Saviour Schnapps. If you use this method often, make sure you always have the right ingredients.
  • Use saving before risky actions. If you’re going to steal, engage in combat with superior forces, or try complex mechanics (such as picking locks), it’s best to make a save beforehand.

The developers abandoned free saves to make the game more hardcore, but added flexible and logical gameplay saving mechanics.
