Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is very close: the release is already on February 4, 2025, and access to early versions of the game allowed content creators to explore a lot of details. Today we will talk about the skill system that will be available to players, how they have changed since the first part and what role they play in the new project.

General changes in the skill system

In the first installment of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, players could develop skills such as:

  • Drinking,
  • Reading,
  • Horsemanship,
  • Houndmaster,
  • Herbalism,
  • Hunting,
  • Lockpicking,
  • Maintenance,
  • Alchemy,
  • Pickpocketing,
  • and Stealth

In the sequel, the approach was revised: the developers reworked the skill structure, grouping them into broader categories.

For example, hunting and herbalism are now grouped under Survival, while hacking and pickpocketing are combined under Thievery. This approach makes the system more concise and user-friendly.

There are nine key skills waiting for us in KCD2:

  • Alchemy;
  • Scholarship;
  • Craftsmanship;
  • Horsemanship;
  • Thievery;
  • Houndmaster;
  • Stealth;
  • Drinking;
  • Survival.

Each of them has its own characteristics, and their development depends on the player’s play style and preferences.

Stealing: the art of stealing

The skill of stealing combines pickpocketing and hacking. Unlike the first part, the system has become smoother, but retains complexity, especially when trying to open difficult locks. Stealing is an important element for completing certain quests and obtaining rare loot, but requires caution as the new penalties for crimes have become much harsher.

Craft: Blacksmithing and more

Blacksmithing, which was missing in the first part, is finally a part of KCD2. Henry, being the son of a blacksmith, can now forge weapons, horseshoes and even lockpicks. The process itself is interesting and requires precision: the metal needs to be heated, then carefully and rhythmically worked with a hammer. If you do everything right, Henry will start whistling and the result will be impressive.

In addition to blacksmithing, the craft involves repairing equipment, which makes this skill even more useful.

Drinking skill: wine, beer and bonuses

Drinking in the game is not just a fun element. The more Henry drinks, the better he can tolerate alcohol. A high skill level allows him to keep his mind clearer for longer and gain bonuses from alcoholic potions, which can come in handy in difficult situations.

Companion Dog: Henry’s loyal friend

Henry the dog, first introduced in the DLC A Woman’s Lot, returns in KCD2. Players can now develop the skill of controlling the dog. This will help with hunting, treasure hunting, and even combat. The higher the skill level, the more options your dog has.

Riding: comfortable traveling around the world

The second part of Kingdom Come features a larger open world, and you’ll need a reliable horse to explore it. Riding skill affects the speed, stamina and overall handling of your horse.

The more time you spend in the saddle, the better Henry can handle the horse.

Alchemy: brew potions wisely

Alchemy returns in KCD2, but with noticeable improvements. The process of creating potions is now easier, and the quality of the ingredients directly affects the potions’ effectiveness.

There are three levels of potions in the game: weak, normal and strong. Following the recipe and using fresh ingredients will ensure the creation of powerful potions, which give additional bonuses.

For example, Saviour Schnapps’ famous game-saving potion will temporarily boost Henry’s stats in the strong version. Other potions, such as Marigold Decoction (a healing potion), can also be improved. The new potion creation process includes controlling the temperature of the cauldron, making the system even more fun.

Scholarship: knowledge is power

The reading skill from Part 1 has given way to a broader skill: scholarship. Henry is no longer an illiterate peasant, but a man who can study books that give him new skills, open dialogs and help him in quests.

Stealth: for those who like a stealthy approach

If you prefer to avoid direct confrontation, stealth will become your best friend. By developing this skill, Henry becomes stealthier, allowing you to effectively eliminate enemies, infiltrate restricted areas and avoid unnecessary fights.

Survival: hunting, herbalism and a little more

The survival skill combines the mechanics of herbalism and hunting. It helps you gather quality ingredients for potions, as well as manage Henry’s needs for food and rest.

A new food spoilage system and the ability to dry food add to the realism.

Skills in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 play a huge role in building and pumping up your character. In KCD2 the skill system has undergone many changes that have improved it and made it more elaborate. By upgrading your character’s skills you can make him stronger, more resilient and more effective in battles and fights.
